Visualizing Success.

Our brains are powerful tools that can be used to achieve greatness. What we feed our minds can either help us achieve success or lower us into failure. Some of the world’s best athletes know this to be true.

Michael Phelps, the Olympic gold medalist swimming extraordinaire has revealed this secret to success several times in interviews, claiming visualization practices have helped get his mind ready for the win.

The practice of visualization is a mental rehearsal where the athlete takes the brain through a race scenario step by step before the event actually happens. This in theory, creates a familiar pathway in the brain where objectives are realized, success is tangibly felt, and the athlete’s mind stays focused on the goal. Think of it as a mental warm-up before a race. We must not only get the body ready. The mind is important too!

Many people think that it’s not possible to program behaviors to make our lives successful, when in fact, it’s the best kept secret of winners. Without training your brain, you can’t expect it to be in control of your body. And without the synchronization of the two, it would be very hard to win a race.

Visualizing success is not only helpful for sporting events, but also for having important conversations, participating in challenging activities, or before taking a big test. By feeding our brains with a positive narrative, we can help achieve a better outcome. The degree to which our minds are trained, our bodies will perform.

Visualization  is more than just “wishful thinking” but instead a very deliberate exercise we take the mind through. It’s focusing on the positive, being calm, and identifying each action step so you operate with ease and confidence. As part of your own visualization exercise, you might even need to get specific and write it down. This way, the next time you have a crucial conversation or a presentation at work, you will know each step that will make you successful.

Encouraging our brains to visualize actions helps us understand which ones we should ignore. This is a surprisingly important skill in a world of fleeting concentration and many distractions. No matter how hard we focus, if we have the wrong actions, we won’t be successful! So visualize the right actions and attitudes you need and move onto greater success!
